The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India TRAI proposed a new tariff regime plan for television viewers. According to the new order by the telecom regulator, broadcasters will provide the channels at MRP. In addition, they will also provide the channel bunch which shouldn’t be priced below 85 percent of the total of MRPs of all the channels combined in a DTH pack. Subscribers can now select the channels they want to watch and pay maximum retail prices which are set by broadcasters.
How channel bouquets can be selected?
In simple terms, there are three options available for the users to select the channel packages:
- Use the entire channel capacity with the free-air channels and pay as per 130 tariff plan only.
- Viewers may select some of the paid channels in place of free channels and pay for the paid channels in addition to 130.
- The broadcaster will provide channel bundle or bouquet of their channels which the viewer may add but within 100 channel package.
It is to be noted that customers will get the capacity of 100 channels only. In case, customers want to increase their channels package, the slot of 25 channels on a certain amount will be available.
Different bundles for SD and HD channels
There are different channel bundles available as per Standard Definition or High Definition. In the
package of 100 channels, one HD channel will be counted as two channels in case of HD.
What is 130 Tariff Plan? How to Pay in this plan?
Television viewers will have the capacity of 100 channels which they can fill with their own choice at 130/. It is the rate for network access which can be filled by channels as per viewer’s choice.The capacity of 100 channels can be filled with free-air channels or paid channels on the option of viewers. If a viewer chooses a plan with the free-air channel for the entire capacity, then they only have to pay 130/-If the viewers want paid channels in the capacity of 100 channels, then they have to pay the additional rate of that respective channel or channels, over and above 130.GST @18%will also be applicable to the total package cost. It is mandatory to have 26 channels of Doordarshan in the capacity of 100 channels. These channels are added by default. So, the subscriber will get a choice of having 76 channels of their own choice (whether free-air or paid).
